Travelling to India After the PIO to OCI Switch
A PIO card is no longer a valid document for entering or leaving India. If you hold an Australian or other foreign passport and still carry an old PIO card, you need either an OCI card or an appropriate Indian visa before you fly.
Once conversion is approved, the OCI card provides lifelong, multiple-entry travel to India and exemption from FRRO registration, however long your stay. Grant of the card remains at the discretion of the Government of India.
